We're excited! Shaun Walker just announced he'll quit his day job and "Start a new Venture". We expect that this means Oqtane is going to go BIG! Here's what you should know:
Shaun Walker is the Father of DNN
In case you are not familiar with the guy, he's actually the father of DNN - or DotNetNuke, as it was called in the original days. DotNetNuke actually started as another open source project called IBuySpy Portal in 2001.
In those days, Shaun was one of a few guys who created their own fork (another famous one was Rainbow Portal) and his fork/clone was called DotNetNuke. As history would have it, DotNetNuke became the preferred edition and at one point in time more than 1 Million websites ran DotNetNuke.
In 2006 he and some friends foundet DotNetNuke corporation, which at one point had more than 70 employees. As the company changed, things didn't quite work out any more and Shaun left it around 2012.
He then worked as a DNN expert at another company which got purchased by another company, which again got purchased and as time went on, Shauns work didn't really include DNN any more.
Shaun is also the Father of Oqtane
Freed of his DNN history, Shaun experimented with creating a new, .net core based platform which leveraged the good parts of DNN that worked, but started anew with aspects that his experience showed were not ideal. His experiment turned into Oqtane which is now the backbone of Oqtane CMS - aka. Blazor CMS (this website).
But all his thousands of hours of work were night job work. His day job was still tied to the extremely large corporation he had been working for.
Times are Changing
A few days ago Shaun Walker announced that he will quit his day job and start something new. He didn't provide more details as to what it is, but we're very confident it will be around Oqtane, which he has been shepherding for the last few years.
Exiting Times
We can only speculate what this means, and if it's going to be a services, software, platform or whatever company. But we are excited, and wish Shaun the best!
Love from the Blazor CMS team,
